Oakley Eyeglass Case

Special project with Oakley to design a limited edition eyeglass case

For the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Oakley asked the DSPTCH Design Team to make a case that would protect and give an unhindered view of three sunglasses.

The challenge was to design a compact case with an unique opening that would fully reveal all the sunglasses without overcomplicating the organization or construction.

Throughout the process of designing, we went through multiple renditions of the case. Inspired by their Icon Backpack, the first version consisted of a clam-shell opening with a top-down view of the sunglasses. The closure did not feel secure and did not showcase the sunglasses well.

The second version consisted of a U-shaped zipper opening that revealed a large frontal cross-section of the inside when fully zipped open. For the internal organization, we chose to stack the sunglasses right side up, on top of each other using vertical pocket mesh “platforms”.

For the third and final version, we kept the opening and form factor, but changed the internal organization to vertical dividers with the eyewear oriented vertically. These dividers were made removeable with hook & loop fasteners and fully lined with Veltrex laminate fabric (hook compatible fabric).

It was an exciting project to work with such a renown brand known for its bold and iconic designs. These cases were seeded to Olympic athletes and PR team individuals as exclusive marketing items.
